10 Things to Know: 2021 ULTIMATE Supers Season

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series season gets underway Saturday at Lake View Motor Speedway.  Before the season gets underway, here are 10 Things to Know about the upcoming campaign.

1 – Zack Mitchell scored three wins in the first five races to set up a strong run of consistency to win the 2020 Ultimate Super Late Model title.  It was the third straight for Mitchell, making him the first driver in series history to complete the “three-peat.”  He won’t be in the lineup this year as he is now a house driver for Barry Wright Race Cars.

2 – In 2020, the series ran 13 times with several schedule changes along the way due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In all, there were nine different winners in those 13 starts.

3 – An aggressive 24-race schedule is on the books for 2021 with stops all around the Southeast.  Some of the big events include a 50-lap race at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, a pair of $20,000-to-win shows at Virginia Motor Speedway (The King of the Commonwealth and the USA 100) and another in the Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond Raceway.

The 2021 ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series schedule boasts 24 races, including the tour’s first-ever trip to The Dirt Track at Charlotte and three $20,000-to-win events.

4 – The 2021 season will get kick started at the Lake View Motor Speedway (SC).  This will be only the second stop for the series at the South Carolina track.  Dennis Franklin won the last show there in 2019.

5 – The ULTIMATE Super Late Models will go 50 laps on Saturday night at Lake View for $5,000.

6 – If you can’t be in South Carolina to watch the show then check out Speed51.TV, as our cameras will be rolling for all the action on Saturday night at Lake View.  It’s a subscription race, so if you’re a member you can watch the race for free.

7 – The month of May will be a busy one for the series, with five races in four race weekends.

May race dates for ULTIMATE include a pair of races at Cherokee Speedway, the $20,000-to-win King of the Commonwealth, another new track for the series in Natural Bridge Speedway and an event at Lancaster Motor Speedway.

8 – Local favorite Willie Milliken is one of the early entries including Dustin Mitchell who won a 30-lap Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model race at Lake view Speedway the previous weekend.

9 – In addition to the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series at Lake View, the 602 Modifieds, CRUSA Street Stocks, Stock V8 and SCDRA FWD classes will be in action this weekend.  Catch all the features on Speed51.TV.

10 – Keep an eye on Cla Knight.  In 2020, he ran only seven times, but had five top-five runs and six top-10 finishes.
