Top 10: 2017 Most-Viewed Modified Videos on Speed51

With the year 2017 nearing the checkered flag, we at Speed51.com are taking a look back some of the top videos from 2017 on the Speed51 Network. Today, we take a look at the top 10 most viewed pavement Modified videos, featuring close quarters racing on the track, memorable moments off the track and the loss of one of Modified racing’s all-time greats.

#1 – Ted Christopher Tribute — The Modified racing community was shaken in September when Modified legend Ted Christopher lost his life in a plane crash.  Speed51’s Bob Dillner delivered a fitting tribute to “The King” on a special edition of Short Track Center. 

 

#2 – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Bristol Recap — The Last Great Colloseum is one of the most anticipated stops on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule each year.  In 2017, a first-time tour winner rose to the occcasion and the NWMT championship picture was shaken up. The Speed51 Network cameras were on-location to deliver a recap of the Bush’s Beans 150.

 

#3 – Highlights: Modifieds at the 50th Annual Snowball Derby — Thirty-two Modifieds took the green flag on Friday night during the 50th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway.  At the end of 50 laps, it was a familiar face standing in victory lane.

 

300x250 51 Network 2017(2)#4 – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Myrtle Beach Recap — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour made its way south to Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC) to kick off the 2017 season during the month of March.  Speed51.com’s Rob Blount spoke with the winner of the race and the major players after the race.

 

#5 – Highlights: Modified Racing Series at New Hampshire  — For the first time in series history, the Valenti Modified Racing Series visited New Hampshire Motor Speedway during the inaugural New England Short Track Showdown.  Once again, the Modifieds proved that they can put on a show at “The Magic Mile.”

 

#6 – Southern Modified Racing Series at Concord (NC) — “The Mod Squad” made their way to Concord Speedway for an early-season battle. In the end, it was two of the south’s best Modified racers battling for the checkered flag.

 

#7 – Highlights: Haunted Hundred at Seekonk — The inaugural Haunted Hundred for the Tri-Track Open Modified Series at Seekonk Speedway (MA) surely didn’t disappoint.  Over the final 20 laps, three different drivers led the way with all three of them making contact with each other at one point or another.

 

#8 – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker Recap — Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park kicked off its 2017 season with the annual Icebreaker for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Rob Blount recapped a race that saw a legendary car visit victory lane and a championship contender sidelined early.

 

#9 – Highlights: Modified of Mayhem Tour at Montgomery — The open-wheeled Modifieds visited Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL) for a 75-lap race in September.  A group of Modified stars and Late Model stars battled for the race win.

 

#10 – Highlights: SBM 125 at Star –  The SBM 125 at Star Speedway is always one of the most entertaining Modified races of the year.  This year’s race didn’t disappoint, as the Tri-Track Open Modified Series stars battled around the tight, quarter-mile bullring. One driver even decided to accept a $1,000 challenge and start at the rear of the field.
