Donny Lia to Miss This Weekend's Mod Tour Race at Spencer
WMT - 7/6/09
Donny Lia, who is third in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points, will not be in attendance for the Spencer Speedway 155 this coming weekend.

The winner of New England 100 on June 27 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Lia will miss the race to attend the wedding of his sister, Danielle.  Lia returned to the No. 4 Modified team  this year after he competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2008. The wedding date was originally scheduled for this weekend since it is an open date for the Truck Series.

‘Mystic Missile' car owner Bob Garbarino has yet to decide what direction the team will take this week, but gave his full support to Lia's decision.

Hossfeld to Attempt Spencer WMT Race as an Owner-Driver

A full-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competitor in 2008, Upstate New York's Chuck Hossfeld is set to make his first Tour appearance this year in the Spencer Speedway 155.
Not only will this be the Ransomville, N.Y., native's 2009 debut, but it will also be his first foray as a car owner in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour as he will bring his own No. 22 Jerry Gradl Motors Chevrolet to the half-mile oval.  Hossfeld will have Kenny Troyer on board as crew chief at Spencer.

UARA Results Are Pending As McReynolds Appeals a DQ

The results of Saturday's UARA-Stars race at Lonesome Pine Speedway (VA) are not final as of Monday afternoon.  Brandon McReynolds was flagged as the third-place finisher, but later disqualified due to an engine infraction.  His team has since appealed and UARA-Stars has acknowledged this appeal and issued the following statement:

"The UARA appeal board has been notified and the process is in progress.  The UARA appeal board consists of non-UARA employees or members to allow for a fair and unbiased decision.  Payoff and the official results for the July 4, 2009 Lonesome Pine Raceway event will be made available as soon as the appeal board makes their final decision."

Coultier is Quickest in ARCA Monday Morning Test at Kentucky

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran Kasey Kahne (center), 15-time AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael (right) and newcomer Brad Sweet (left) are among the drivers testing today at Kentucky Speedway. While Kahne and Sweet are testing Doug Stringer Motorsports entries, Carmichael is in a Kevin Harvick, Inc Chevrolet.

Joey Coulter, also in a Chevrolet, was quickest among the 16 drivers who posted time and speed in the morning session at Kentucky.

Hessert to Take Over RAB Racing ARCA Ride Starting at Iowa

RAB Racing announced today that Tom Hessert III will pilot the No. 09 Cherry Hill Classic Cars Ford Fusion for the remainder of the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series season. Hessert will be driving for the seasoned ARCA RE/MAX Series team RAB Racing with Brack Maggard, beginning at Iowa Speedway on July 11th.

Legends of NASCAR to Head for Big Mansfield Street Stock Race

he Legends of NASCAR are making a stop at Mansfield Motorsports Park on Sunday, July 19, to meet their fans, sign autographs and participate in the racing program. Cale Yarborough, Harry Gant, Sterling Marlin and Jimmy Spencer will be appearing live and in person, competing together one more time against each other on the super fast Mansfield track. This will be the same night the track hosts the Frank Kimmel Street Stock 200-lap Invitational. The race will be open to all Kimmel, CRA and local Street Stocks.  Upwards of 100 cars could show up to compete for the $5,000 winner's purse.

Spears Manufacturing to Sponsor SRL Southwest Tour Series

It was announced Friday evening that one of the biggest names in west coast stock car racing has signed on as the title sponsor of the SRL Southwest Tour Series, newly named the SRL Spears Southwest Tour Series.  At a dinner of more than 200 SRL Southwest Tour Series team members, officials and sponsors held at Madera Speedway, Larry Collins announced that Spears Manufacturing, a world leader in plastic piping products, will be the series title sponsor for the remainder of 2009.  Wayne Spears and his wife Connie have owned competitive race teams for more than 25 years, including teams that competed on the NASCAR Southwest Tour Series, the Camping World Truck Series and championship teams in the NASCAR Camping World West Series.  

Series ACT Castrol Montmagny 250 is Postponed by Rain 'til Aug.

The Series ACT Castrol Montmagny 250 scheduled for Saturday, July 4th at Autodrome Montmagny has been postponed until Satuday, August 1st due to expected heavy rains. The Montmagny 250 was scheduled to be the sixth event on the Series ACT Castrol 250 and the second trip to the 1/3 mile speedplant.

Is The Milwaukee Mile On Its Deathbed?

The nation's oldest race track might be closing for good.  The Milwaukee Mile, which has hosted scores of short track racing series through the years, has shut down its offices and laid off its staff according to the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal.  The future of the track is unknown.  You can read the story by clicking here or Dave Kallmann's commentary about the situation from the Sentinel-Journal by clicking here.

Carquest Tour Announces Make-Up Dates For Two Events

The Carquest Pro Stock Tour has announced new dates for the Lucas Oil 100 and Parts for Trucks 100. The Lucas Oil 100 was scheduled to run at Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge on June 20th. The Parts for Trucks 100 was scheduled to run on June 27th at Speedway 660 in Fredericton. Both events were postponed due to inclement weather.  The Carquest Tour is scheduled to be back on the Island at Raceway Park on the August 1st long weekend.  This will now be a double header weekend.  The Parts for Trucks 100 there will run as scheduled on Saturday, August 1st at 6:00pm.  The Lucas Oil 100 will follow on Sunday, August 2nd at 2:00pm.   The Parts for Trucks 100 in Fredericton that was rained out last weekend has been re-scheduled for July 25th at Speedway 660 at 7:00pm.

Hornaday Hopes to Continue Hot Streak Tonight in ASA MW Race

Ron Hornaday Jr. is on a roll as he has won the last two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Milwaukee and this past weekend in Memphis. He is hoping that winning streak continues as he will join the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment this Friday Night as he will compete in the Keith Fleck Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Borneman Plans an East Coast / West Coast Double Weekend

Johnny Borneman will attempt to qualify for Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway. He then plans to fly from the East Coast to the West Coast to compete in a NASCAR Camping World Series West race on Saturday at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif.

Berlin Raceway Offers a Budget Friendly Card of Racing on Sat.

This Saturday, July 4, at Berlin Raceway (MI) is Stars and Stripes Night.  That means some great deals for race fans -  The USA Modifieds will return along with the Kerkstra Services Pro Stocks, Burnips Equipment 4-Cylinders and Young Guns.  There will also be Trash Can Bowling, a post-race fireworks show and $1 beer and $1 hot dogs.  Admission for ages 6 and up will be $5 and kids five and under are free.

Lafayette, Louisiana's Hal Martin will attempt to make his ASA Late Model Series debut this weekend at Rockingham Speedway in the Cherry Bomb 200.  He will be driving the #76 entry for Lorz Motorsports.

600 Racing Rule Change a Wheel-y Big Deal For Legends Teams

Peltier's PASS South Engine Gets a Clean Bill of Tech

After winning New Senoia, Preston Peltier's engine was taken out and impounded for further inspection by PASS South officials.  It has now been cleared and the following statements has been released: After technical inspection of the #26 car of Owner Harold Johnson, Driver Preston Peltier: the cam was checked on a cam doctor machine, the duration and lift were fine. The head was compared to a new head and no infractions were found.

NASCAR's Firecracker 400 Causes Florida Tracks to Adjust Skeds

With the running of the Firecracker 400 (or more accurately the Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola if you are a politically correct type) NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, several area tracks have adjusted their race schedules.  Both Voulisa Speedway Park and Columbia Raceway Park have scheduled this weekend as an off-week for racing, while New Smyrna Speedway will run their Clyde Hart Memorial for Super Late Models on Thursday night.

Wimmer Beats a Stout Field in Madison's All Star Challenge

Chris Wimmer passed Matt Kenseth on lap 89 and led the rest of the way to win the Swiss Colony All Star Challenge at Madison International Speedway (WI). Kenseth, who started on the pole, led the entire race until Wimmer eventually would make the pass for the lead coming out of turn two after the two had battled side by side.  Shortly after the completion of the race the approaching rains finally arrived at MIS. After waiting nearly an hour for the rain and mist to stop it was decided to postpone the Big 8 LM feature until Friday, August 14th.

Choquette To Race New Smyrna & PASS South Back-to-Back

Jeff Choquette is a busy man this Independence holiday weekend. Choquette is competing on Thur, July 2nd at New Smyrna Speedway in the Clyde Hart Memorial Super Late Model 125. On Friday, he will race Cale Gale's Super Late Model at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in SC for the PASS South Tour. Gale, a Kevin Harvick Inc. development driver, will act as crew chief. If all goes well there Choquette will attempt to make three races in one weekend with a trip to Hickory, NC on Sunday (July 5th) for rd. 2 of the PASS double-header weekend.

Unity Raceway has announced a make-up date for the rained out PASS North Super Late Model event originally scheduled for Father's Day.  The NAPA 150 is now scheduled to run
on Sunday, August 2.  The PASS Sportsman Series and PASS Modifieds will also see action on this special racing program. Two-for-one grandstand admission coupons for this event are available at most Northern New England NAPA Auto Parts stores.

Three-time Caraway Speedway (NC) track champion Dennis Setzer will return to his roots and compete in the Third Annual Rusty Harpe Memorial presented by Lewis & Daggett Attorneys At Law on Wednesday July 1st at 8pm.  Setzer won three consecutive titles in ’88, ’89 & ’90 before moving up to the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Truck Series.  He will be amongst two time track champions Jason York , Travis Swaim and Randy Benson.

All net proceeds from the event will be donated to charities designated by the Kasey Kahne Foundation and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.  URC-sanctioned 360/358 Sprints will be the main feature of this year’s race. The Super Late Model class will also be a major attraction, expected to include several NASCAR drivers, including Kyle Busch and David Stremme. Additional drivers will be announced as the event approaches.

Skid Row Bassist to Try Out Pro Challenge Racing Wednesday

Rachel Bolan, bassist for the rock band Skid Row, has a deep passion for fast racecars whenever he's not touring the world playing in front of fans every night. That passion has led him to hook up with Pro Challenge North Region director Curt Andrews' Andrews Motorsports race team for this Wednesday night's North Region event at the quarter-mile at Concord Speedway (NC). The event will share the racing card with the USAC Carolinas Focus Midget Series.

Zumbrich Takes Over Cassill's Port City Ride in ASA Late Models

Ross Zumbach Motorsports is teaming up with Harley Boeve and Rich Lushes of Port City Race Cars to compete in select ASA Late Model Series Northern and Southern Division races in the 2009 season.  18-year-old Ross Zumbach will made ASALMS debut with the #161 Port City Chevrolet Impala normally driven by 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year, Landon Cassill, in the River Run 100 at the historic LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, Wisconsin on Saturday night.  He finished seventh.  Zumbach, who calls Racine, Minnesota home, will be under the guidance of veteran Crew Chief, Lushes and Cassill, who will serve as Zumbach's Driving Coach and Spotter.
