Frank is Fastest in ASA Late Model Rockingham Test

Rockingham Speedway (NC) was busy with action today as the ASA Late Model Challenge Series was on hand for an open test. The fastest cars in the first session were AJ Frank (25.214), Brian Blum (25.524), and Stephen Leicht (26.092). Gene Kirila and Brandon Johnson rounded out the top five. The ASA Challenge Series will race “The Rock” on July 4 in the Cherry Bomb 200.
Tiffany Daniels to Finish Out '09 CW East Series Schedule

Tiffany Daniels will take over the No. 94 Hamilton Racing Dodge full time in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, it was announced today by The 909 Group, which manages the Drive for Diversity initiative. Daniels, 24, made her NASCAR Camping World Series East debut for Hamilton Racing and the Drive for Diversity program on Saturday at Watkins Glen International.
ASA Late Model Series Is Healthy and "A-Go" for All of 2009

Despite ongoing rumors, ASA LM Series owner Ron Varney told Speed51.com today that the ASA LM Challenge Series and its North and South program are very strong and not in jeapordy of going out of business. The Challenge Series travels to O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, IN this weekend and will also visit such prestigous racetracks as Rockingham Speedway, Nashville Super Speedway, Gateway Int'l, Iowa Speedway and Memphis Motorsports Park. The series has also had strong car counts thus far in 2009.

Former NASCAR Driver Joe Ruttman to Drive a LM at Flat Rock

The name Joe Ruttman will be familiar to race fans from the late 1960's, 70's and 80's in Midwest stock car racing circles. Ruttman was one of the top Late Model drivers, winning races at many tracks before heading on to the NASCAR Cup Series and Truck Series. And now, at the invitation of Stan Yee Jr., Joe will return to drive one of the Yee Late Models for the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night, June 27. Ruttman drove cars for Stand Yee, Sr. to many victories on both dirt and asphalt tracks in the Midwest early in his career. Ruttman's last race at Flat Rock was in the mid 1990's when he won an ARCA RE/MAX Series race there.
Ted Christopher to Make Bowman Gray Stadium Debut

Ted Christopher is set to invade Bowman Gray Stadium's weekly NASCAR Modified wars at Bowman Gray Stadium (NC). The Defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion will pilot the Hillbilly Motorsports #79 owned by Roge Hill at the famed 1/4 mile bull ring. He will attempt to be the first "invader" to win a weekly Modified race at the Stadium since Jerry Cook took the checkers in May of 1982.
ASA Late Models To Test Rockingham Speedway on Monday

The drivers of the ASA Late Model Stock Car Series are invading the Rockingham Speedway Monday, June 8 in anticipation of the July 4 running of the Cheerwine Cherry Bomb 200.
Cars hit the track at 10 AM for the first practice session and will run until 11:55. The afternoon session runs from 1 to 4 PM. The grandstands will be open to the public for the practice sessions free of charge. The Cheerwine Cherry Bomb 200 is a special double header race featuring the Kimmel Street Stock Series and the ASA Late Model Series.
Richmond Expected on ASA SAT Schedule for 2010

According to series officials, Richmond International Speedway in Virginia is expected to be announced to the 2010 ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour schedule. RIR hosts two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races each year. No word on if ASA SAT will be the opening act for a NASCAR event or a combo race with another series.

Ryan Truex Gets First Win in East Series with Last Lap Pass

Ryan Truex passed road racer Patrick Long on the last lap at Watkins Glen to collect his first career win in the NASCAR Camping World East Series Series. Matt Kobyluck and Brett Moffitt rounded out the top-three in Saturday's race.
Ryan's brother, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr., was so pumped up when he heard of the good news, that according to his team, he sounded as if he just won the race while in his car at the conclusion of the final practice session at Pocono Raceway.
"I can't believe it; I'm just so pumped up. And he beat my record too," said Truex Jr., who had won in his sixth East Series start. This was Ryan's fifth start in CWE.

Two-Time ASA Champ St. Amant to Run Redbud 300 at Anderson

Two-time ASA National Champion Gary St. Amant will compete in the CRA Super Series-sanctioned Redbud 300, a tribute to the heritage of the former ASA national series at Anderson Speedway (IN) on June 16th. St. Amant joins NASCAR star Kyle Busch among former series drivers that will race in the event. St. Amant made 14 ASA starts at Anderson with one win in 1997. St. Amant recorded seven top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes in his career with ASA at Anderson.

Ford Teams to Get Contingency Program in ASA Late Models

Ford Racing has announced its support for the ASA Late Model Series with a racer contingency plan for the 2009 season. Ford Racing has posted a $200 contingency award for race winners in all 3 of the ASA Late Model Series divisions. To be eligible for the awards, the winning racers must be driving a race car powered by the Ford D347SR Sealed Racing Engine. Ford racing will also post $500 awards for the three Series Champions and Rookie of the Year contingent upon use of the Ford Racing M-6007-D347SR Engine in 50% of the races entered by the Driver.
Prelude to The Dream is Postponed Until September 9th

Persistent rain caused officials at Eldora Speedway (OH), to postpone the fifth annual Prelude to the Dream from its scheduled date of Wednesday, June 3rd.. The all-star dirt late model race has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9. A decision regarding the broadcast of the event will be made at a later date.
Bumbera Out, Daniels In Bobby Hamilton Jr.'s East Series Ride

NASCAR Camping World East Series racer Kristin Bumbera has parted ways with Bobby Hamilton Jr. Racing after this past weekend's event at South Boston Speedway. Speed51.com confirmed on Wednesday with Cheri Bumbera, Kristin's business representative, that they are now looking to race in the NASCAR Camping World West Series with their own team based out of Texas, Next Generation Racing. They are currently looking for marketing partners for the season and can be contacted through Kristin's website by clicking here.
Also, Late Model Racer Tiff Daniels will be making her NASCAR Camping World East Series debut at Watkins Glen International (NY) on Saturday, June 6th, according to her website. Daniels, who is a Support Engineer with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, will race in her first-career road course race on Saturday. It is expected she will drive the Bobby Hamilton Jr Racing Dodge that has been vacated by Bumbera.

Former Metrolina Speedway to See New Life in $50 Mil. Project?

The Charlotte Observer has reported that Metrolina Speedway, a North Charlotte, North Carolina dirt track that has been shuttered for years, might be reopened as part of a $50 million motorsports complex project called the Metrolina Speed and Sport Center. The development would feature a progressively banked asphalt short track along with retail and commercial development geared towards the motorsports fan and industry.
