Thunder Road's Governor's Cup to Be a Big Show This Week
ACT - 6/22/09
Thursday night's Governor's Cup race at Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT) is shaping up to be a major event.  The non-points ACT race will feature Tony Stewart driving a Late Model as a teammate to Joey Pole.  Some observers are predicting that the track might see its largest crowd in history, so track officials have made a few plans to deal with that rush of fans.  Local teams will be allowed to park their haulers from 5-6:30pm on Wednesday evening and some camping will be available on Thursday night only - but only campers from out of state with tickets to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend will be allowed.

Speed 51 Radio Show Moves to Wednesday Nights

The Speed 51 Radio show on Race Talk Radio is moving nights starting this week.  The show, along with Legends Nations Radio, will move from Tuesday night to Wednesday nights for at least the length of the summer.  This week's Speed 51 Radio show will start ayt 6:30pm ET and we'll be announcing guests in the next few days.

Vordermeier Returns to Mod Tour at New Hampshire This Week

Fred Vordermeier has filed an entry for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race this coming wekeend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  The former Mod Tour regular has not run a race on the Tour since the 2005 season.

Robb Brent is Out of Hospital & Headed Home After ARCA Wreck

ARCARacing.com has reported that ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie of the year contender Robb Brent is on his way home from Mansfield to his home in Shelby Township, Michigan on Sunday afternoon.  Brent was taken to an area hospital after a wreck in Saturday's event at Mansfield Motorsports Park.

NHMS To Let Fans in Free for CW East and Mod Tour Qualifying

On Thursday, June 25, "Fan Fest" at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will feature free grandstand admission for NASCAR Camping World Series East Series and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour qualifying, as well as a great evening of free entertainment.

Performing live throughout the night will be up-and-coming country-rock band Jonathan Scott and the Blazing Hearts.   Qualifying sessions will begin at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 as the aces of NASCAR Camping World Series East make their pole run for the Heluva Good! 125.  At 4:45 p.m., the ground-pounding NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour stars will qualify for the New Hampshire 100.  From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the "Fan Fest" celebration will end a great opening day at the speedway.

Buzzie Reutimann Flips, While Carter Wrecks Then Wins at VSP
Dirt Modifieds - 6/21/09
Modified Legend Buzzie Reutimann, who is also the father of NASCAR Sprint Cup race winner David Reutimann, hopped into a Modified on the dirt at Volusia County Speedway (FL) on Saturday night.  Reutimann won his heat race and was out front in the feature when a tire went down and led to a wreck that ended with Reutimann flipped over and parked upside on top of Jamie Carter's car.  After being checked out by the ambulance crew, Reutimann was given a clean bill of health and released.

Shane Burrows was flagged the race winner, but failed technical inspection due to a spoiler issue.  Carter ended up inheriting the victory - even after his wild wreck with Reutimann early in the race.  Carter was serving as a substitute driver of Jason Davis's #145 Modified after had knee surgery during the week.

Carey & Coffey to Provide Live Radio Coverage of NH Mod Race

Modified fans everywhere can follow all the race action from New Hampshire Motor Speedway June 27, as NASCAR has announced that play-by-play audio for the New England 100 will be streamed live on www.nascarhometracks.com, the official site for NASCAR’s touring and weekly series.

Matt Carey and Jay Coffey, hosts of the “Carey & Coffey Show,” and Kyle Rickey will handle the broadcast of the New England 100 on Saturday, June 27 in Loudon, N.H.  In addition to the online coverage, fans will be able to tune into the New England 100 on ESPN Radio 940 WINE or 1510 WPUT, the flagship stations of the “Carey & Coffey Show.”

Joey Doiron Makes Beech Ridge PASS North Plans

Joey Doiron will attempt his PASS North Super Late Model debut on Friday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME).  The Maine teenager is a rookie on the ACT Late Model Tour and will also run next Saturday's race on that Tour at White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH).

BDI Racing Signs Kenzie Ruston to Chase Summer Shootout Title

BDI Racing has signed 17-year-old Kenzie Ruston to make a bid for the Legends Car Semi-Pro Championship in the 10-race 2009 Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.  Click here for the full story

Mansfield to Hire Laid-Off Police Officers to Help at ARCA Event

The economy has hit  the area of Mansfield, Ohio very hard.  General Motors has closed one of their stamping plants located in town and that has trickled down through  he community.  But now, the racing community is doing a small, but very noble, part to help out.

Mansfield Motorsports Park has hired local policemen for security on race day for many years. This week's Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA/REMAX 200 will continue the tradition but with a bit of a humanitarian twist. The security force will include all eight laid-off Mansfield police officers. “It may just be one weekend's work but I'm sure it will help put food on the table for some of our finest in their time of need” stated track owner Mike Dzurilla. The racetrack plans on utilizing this program at all their events until the City of Mansfield hires back their police officers.

Thursday Night True Value Show at Thompson is Postponed

A persistent and heavy rain and an unforgiving forecast caused Thompson International Speedway to reschedule the June 18th Town Fair Tire 75 for the True Value Modified Series. The new date for the race will be Thursday, July 23rd. The published schedule of events for the June 18th race will be the same when this extremely popular race program returns on July 23rd.

Bubba Pollard Confirms Entry Into New Senoia PASS South Race

One of the hottest drivers in the nation will race with the drivers of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South at New Senoia Raceway (GA) this Saturday. Bubba Pollard of Senoia, Georgia will take on the regulars of the super late model touring series in the Dixie 150.

Pollard has been on a tear on tracks in the Southeast this season with numerous wins including 4 wins in the Viper Pro Late Model Series at South Alabama Speedway. In addition, he has wins at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway. Pollard also has a CRA South Series super late model win to his credit at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia this season.

Bonnett to Run ACT Governor's Cup for RPM Motorsports Team

Justin St. Louis' Vermont Motorsports Magazine has reported that two-time Airborne Speedway (NY) Sportsman division champion Jason Bonnett will drive the #32 RPM Motorsports entry in next week's Governor's Cup ACT Late Model race at Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT) and in the Fall Foliage 300 at Airborne in September.  Bonett will drive the same car that Mike Olsen entered three races in for the team earlier this year.  The #37 RPM entry that is usually driven by Brian Hoar will not be racing in this event.

Wall Twin 50 Lappers For Modifieds Reset for August 8th

The Race of Champions Qualifier Twin-50 Lap main events for the tour type Modified stock cars that was rain postponed on June 13 will be contested on Saturday night, August 8 at Wall Stadium. Jim Morton, promoter of the Able Ford Subaru Racing Series at the third mile paved oval, made the announcement after looking over several speedway and tour series schedules.

Tight PASS North Point Battle Heads to Unity This Weekend

Only three points seperate the top three positions in the PASS North point standings headed into Sunday's race at Unity Raceway (ME).  Ben Rowe leads Adam Bates by two markers and Johnny Clark by three currently.  Both Rowe and Clark have won two races each this year, while Bates (a two-time winner in 2008) is looking for his first victory of the season this week at Unity.

Fathers Are Free at Orlando and New Smyrna This Weekend

In celebration of Father's Day weekend, all Dads will receive free admission this week at Orlando Speedworld (On Friday night) and New Smyrna Speedway (On Saturday night).  The two Central Florida tracks have dubbed their promotion as "Dad's Night Out."

ASA Southern Modified Race at Motor Mile is Moved to August

Officials of the American Speed Association (ASA) sanctioned Southern Modified Race Tour (SMRT) and Motor Mile Speedway have announced the ASA/SMRT tour event scheduled for June 20th has been rescheduled for Friday August 21st due to worries about the race's car count.

CRA Crew Member is Injured in Incident at Anderson Speedway

Curt Stein, a crewman for the CRA Super Series team of Damon Ecoff, was seiously injured at Anderson Speedway (IN) on Tuesday after an industrial accident while preparing tires for the Redbud 300.  Stein was airlifted from the track and taken to an area hospital.  CRA's R.J. Scott posted on MotorsportsLounge.com that his lastest report from the team was that the outlook for Stein was better than first thought.  Speed51.com offers Stein our wishes for a speedy and full recovery from his injuries.

Redbud 300 Rescheduled for July 27th - Day After Brickyard 400

Officials from Anderson Speedway announced that impending rain and storms have forced the reschedule of today's CRA Super Series Redbud 300 The rescheduled date will be Monday, July 27th, the day after the famed Brickyard 400 at IMS.  32 Cars were pre-entered for the race that was planned to honor the heritage of the ASA National Tour.  Anderson Speedway was considered by many to be the home track of the Pendleton, IN based series.  The two entities were both owned by the Rex Robbins family from the mid seventies to the late nineties. 

Among the cars pre-entered for the event were NASCAR star Kyle Busch, former 2-Time ASA National Champion Gary St. Amant, Former ASA Star and Anderson event winner Harold Fair and 3-Time CRA Champion Scott Hantz.  All are expected to return for the re-schedule date.

St. Amant Enters USARacing Pro Cup Event at Myrtle Beach

Short Track veteran Gary St Amant will return to the USARacing Pro Cup ranks this weekend at Myrtle Beach Speedway (SC). Gary told Speed51.com that he is trying to get funding to run some more Super Late Model and Pro Cup shows throughout 2009. 

Trey Mitchell Will Be Back in the PASS South Mix at New Senoia

After taking a few weeks off from behind the wheel of a race car to finish up his sophomore year of college and visit family and friends in his home state of Texas, Trey Mitchell will hit the track once again. Mitchell and his Freddie Query led race team will head south for the PASS South Dixie 150 at the New Senoia Raceway located just south of Atlanta, Georgia.

It's Kids Carnival of Fun Night this Friday, June 19th at the Dixie Motor Speedway (MI) as Kids in Costumes get in for absolutely free as there will be all sorts of games, prizes, and fun to be had in the Pavillion area located behind Turn One for the great young fans of Dixie.

Anderson's Redbud 300 is Postponed by Rain

Tuesday's Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway has been postponed by rain.  The word just came down about the decision and it is reported that a make-up date could be on either Tuesday, July 28th or Tuesday, August 11th.  We will keep you posted.
