NASCAR Mod Tour Teams Get Open Test at Bristol Next Monday

Teams that will be competing in the NASCAR Whelen Modified/Whelen Southern Modified event at Bristol Motor Speedway in August will be able to take part in an open test at that facility next Monday, June 8th. The rain date for the test will be on Tuesday, June 9th.

Sean Caisse Signs Nationwide Series Deal With Childress Team

Richard Childress Racing has signed Sean Caisse to drive its No. 2 Chevrolet in a limited number of Nationwide Series races in 2009 and a more expanded program in 2010. The 23-year-old driver from Pelham, N.H., is scheduled to make his RCR Nationwide Series debut at Nashville Superspeedway. Caisse will drive the No. 2 Chevrolet at the June 6 Federated Auto Parts 300 and a yet-to-be-determined number of other Nationwide Series races this season before a more expanded program in 2010.
NASCAR & Jostens Team Up For Weekly Series Rookie Award

Minneapolis-based Jostens, a leading provider of special awards, rings and trophies, has joined the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, sponsoring the series’ new Rookie of the Year Award presented by Jostens. The company will reward a national Rookie of the Tear, as well as state and province rookies of the year. All award winners will be recognized at the series’ year-end awards banquet in Concord, N.C. The national award winner will also receive a $2,000 bonus, while each state or provincial Rookie of the Year will receive a bonus of $1,000.
Pole to Wheel Pro Stock at Seekonk, PASS North Races Next?

ACT driver Joey Pole will be trying his hand in the Pro Stock (Super Late Model) ranks at Seekonk Speedway (MA) June 20th for a 75-lap Pro Stock special event. Pole will drive for car owner Eric DeSouza at the same track where he won his first career ACT race in 2007. Pole might also drive for the team in the July PASS North race at Lee USA Speedway and the August PASS North race at Seekonk.
Haudenschild Inducted into National Sprint Car Hall of Fame

For over 35 years, Jac Haudenschild has been thrilling fans from coast-to-coast with his always exciting driving style, and for once he was the one receiving a thrill, as he was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday. While Haudenschild was competing at I-96 Speedway in Michigan with the World of Outlaws on Saturday, finishing a very solid sixth, his long time friend and 2007 Hall of Fame Inductee Kenny Jacobs accepted the honor for the fellow Ohioan.

McReynolds Edges Caudill at Dillon for UARA Triumph

Brandon McReynolds edged veteran and point leader Jamey Caudill for the victory in the 150-lap event Saturday at Dillon Motor Speedway in SC. It was McReynolds first win of the year and second-ever in UARA competition. Rounding out the top five were Richard Boswell, Owen Kelly and Garrett Campbell.
Stephen Bergh Beats Meghan Dillner in PC Nat'l Race at Dillon

Stephen Bergh Jr. won the National Pro Challenge Series race Saturday at Dillon Motor Speedway. Bergh grabbed the lead on lap one from outside of the front row. Meghan Dillner lost her brakes halfway through the race, but managed to finish second while Kyle Benjamin was third in the 35-lap event.
Brett Moffitt Takes Checkers In East Race at South Boston

Andy Santerre's development team won their first NASCAR Camping World East Series race with rookie driver Brett Moffitt at South Boston Speedway in VA. RCR development driver Ryan Gifford was second and pole-sitter Ryan Truex was third. Rounding out the top five was point leader Jody Lavender and Max Gresham in his East Series debut.

Fredrickson Earns Pole for ASA MWT Race at The Dells

Dan Fredrickson beat 40 other cars for the top time in qualifying for the ASA Midwest Tour event at The Dells Raceway Park in WI. Steve Holzhausen and Steve Carlson were second and third. Donnie Reuvers and Andrew Morrissey were fourth and fifth. The top-five in qualifying were separated by less than a tenth of a second. Drivers such as Jonathan Eilen, Tim Schendel and Nick Murgic will need to qualify through consi races.
Ryan Truex on the Pole for East Series Race at South Boston

Ryan Truex has scored his first pole in NASCAR Camping World East Series competition. It came Saturday at South Boston Speedway in VA. According to our 51 team in Dover, DE, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Martin Truex, Jr., Ryan's brother, is extremely excited. Brett Moffitt, Sean Caisse, Jonathan Smith and Matt Kobyluck rounded out the top five.
Wakefield Qualifies 1st for PASS South Race at Coastal Plains

Justin Wakefield bested the 17 car field in PASS South qualifying at Coastal Plains Speedway. Ryan Moore was second and Heath Hindman third. Ben Rowe and John Stancill rounded out the top five. Second through seventh in qualifying were only separated by .039 seconds.

The first practice session is complete for the ASA MWT at The Dells Raceway Park in WI. Nick Murgic was quickest of the 41 cars on hand for the race. Two veterans, Steve Holzhausen and Steve Carlson followed Murgic on the speed charts.

As of Friday afternoon, 49 drivers have filed entries for Saturday’s Race for the Gold Bronze race, a 125-lap feature, at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and the fourth event on the 2009 American Speed Association Midwest Tour’s schedule. This is the re-scheduled event that was rained out on Saturday, April 25th .
The Mid-American Series will also be competing in a 50-lap event on Saturday night. Close to 30 cars are expected for them. Gates open at 3 p.m., qualifying at 4:00 p.m., autograph session at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

The American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment's season opening event was re-scheduled for this Saturday, May 30th at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI. With the Mid-American Series already on the schedule, it opened the door for the two popular series to compete on the same night.

Pro Cup Adds Date in June at Lanier to its 2009 Schedule

The USARacing Pro Cup Series announced today the Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, GA, will fill in as the final “TBA” for the 2009 schedule. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 27, 2009, and will be a combo event with the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour. This will be the first time the USARacing Pro Cup Series has held an event at the 3/8 mile asphalt oval and the first ever combo event with ASA.
Columbus Speedway Running Sat. After Bus Goes Through Wall

Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) will hold their 50-lap Late Model race as well as other local divisions Saturday night as scheduled after track officials spent the week repairing a five-foot gap in the turn-one wall that was created by a school bus that ran through the wall in a figure-8 bus race last weekend. The crash occured when the second-place bus rear-ended the lead bus, which was driven by SPEED pit reporter Ray Dunlap, and the two buses slammed through the outside wall. Conflicting news reports listed anywhere from 10 to 12 fans were taken to nearby hospitals, but all have been released. Check out the wild video by clicking here.

Wilkesboro Race Postponed, Lacks Support From Track Owner?

Flooding in the Wilkes County area has officially postponed this weekend's planned reopening of North Wilkesboro Speedway (NC). Track officials released a statement on Thursday that the Super Late Model/Late Model features there could not run because needed improvements to the track have been delayed due to the flooding. They have not released a make-up date, but are "hoping for it to be in the next two or three weeks." Meanwhile, track owner Bruton Smith told ESPN that the races planned for the track are a surprise to him - and he didn't sound very supportive either.
"I own the place and it's for sale, but I did not know there was going to be anything there," Smith said to ESPN. "The last time I saw it, it was just slowly returning to the earth."

After a soggy and rain drenched weekend in Alabama, The Southern Superstars Short Track Series drivers are eager to climb back into the machines. Both the Hall of Fame 100 at Sayre Speedway and the Memorial 100 at The Huntsville Speedway were cancelled due to inclement weather. The Hall of Fame 100 has been rescheduled for June 13 and the Memorial 100 is set to be run one week later on June 20.

True Value Modified Crew Member Loses Life in Highway Wreck

The Hartford Courant has reported that True Value Modified Racing Series crew member Dick Mills lost his life Sunday night in a highway wreck in Vermont. Mills, 59, was involved in the wreck where he hit a moose in the road on I-91 after the TVMRS race earlier in the day at Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT). Mills was a crew member for the Rhode Island-based father-daughter Perry Motorsports team of Butch and Shelly Perry.
Donald Tilley, Brother of Driver Alex Yontz, Passes Away

Donald "Duck" Tilley, brother of UARA-Stars and ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Alex Yontz, passed away due to a brain aneurysm on Sunday morning at the age of 34. Tilley also leaves behind his wife of fourteen years, Amy; and their two young girls: Payton and Ava. At his family's request, Yontz continued with plans to race a Late Model Stock Car at Caraway Speedway (NC) on Saturday night. He finished second in tribute to his brother before heading back to the hospital to be with his family. Speed51.com sends our thoughts and prayers out to the Yontz and Tilley families for their loss.

Former Pro Cup and ARCA competitor Ken Butler III is now a proud papa. He and his wife, Jaime, gave birth to their first child on Saturday. Piper Shay Butler weighed in at 6 lbs. 7 oz. Mother and baby are doing fine while Ken prepares for his first Nationwide start at Dover this week. Ken is the son of the owner of Aaron’s Sales and Lease, Ken Butler.
LW Miller Changing to a Troyer Chassis to Get Back on Track

Former NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champ LW Miller has been struggling this season. Now sources tell us Miller is taking delivery of a new Troyer chassis racecar in an effort to get back to victory lane. Miller had been using a Chassis Dynamics racecar.
