The #1 Pick in the 2009 Short Track Draft will be back racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Dover Int'l Speedway next Friday, May 29th. Brian Ickler will drive the Billy Ballew Motorsports #15 at Dover and then will jump into the #51 for the next week's race in Texas. Ickler will be back in the #15 at Michigan.
Concord SPLMS Race is Replaced by a Saturday Night Show

With the Southern Pro Late Model Series (SPLMS) announcing the demise of the series, the June 6th tour event co-promoted by SPLMS and ASA South has been removed from the Concord Speedway (NC) schedule. The speedway is replacing the June 6th tour date with a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event, highlighted by the Pro Late Model division.
Five Flags Blizzard and Mobile SLM Races Postponed One Week

Friday's Blizzard Series race at Five Flags Speedway (FL) and Saturday night's Miller Lite Super Late Model Series race at Mobile International Speedway (AL) have both been postponed by poor weather until next weekend - at the same times and same days of the week.
Volusia Speedway Park's Program Also Falls to a Week of Rain

Volusia Speedway Park has cancelled this weekend's racing event. General Manager Tonya Moschell released the following statement this morning. "We have pulled the plug…..after more than 20 inches of rain this week and more rain this morning, we have made the decision to cancel tomorrow's racing program".
Hoosier Hundred to Honor Memory of Larry Rice

In memory of former racer and broadcaster Larry Rice, who passed away this week, Friday's running of the Hoosier Hundred at Indiana State Fairgorunds has been dedicated to his memory. Rice, a three-time USAC champion, attended his first Hundred in 1953 and won the race in 1981.

ACTers Rolfe & Doiron Plan Weekly Shows to Fill Their Schedules

A pair of ACT Late Modelers have plans to stay busy during gaps in that tour's schedule - even if that schedule gap is only one day long. Ricky Rolfe will race his #51 Late Model at Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) on Saturday night and then tow to Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT) to race in Sunday's ACT feature there this weekend. Also, ACT Rookie Joey Doiron plans to run a Pro Series (Super Late Model) car at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) on his off-weekends from ACT this season. He plans to be ready for the Ridge within the next few weeks.
Rocco, Wrenn and Gente Win at Thompson on Thursday Night

The first Thursday Night Thunder at Thompson International Speedway (CT) started the season off with a bang. Keith Rocco earned victory in a thrilling Sunoco Modified main event over Jimmy Blewett and Woody Pitkat. In the Super Late Modes, it was Norm Wrenn of who won over Les Rose, Jr. and Derek Ramstrom while Rick Gente edged out fan favorite Jeff Zuidema to earn the Late Model checkers.
Stafford SK Modified Driver Pallai to Make Mod Tour Debut

Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) SK Modified driver Richie Pallai will make his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut as a teammate to Todd Szegedy for Mike Smeriglio Racing. Pallai also plans to team up with MSR for the remaining two races at Stafford along with possible additional dates at Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome and Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

Landon Cassill, the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year, might not be seeing much action in that series these days, but the Hendrick Motorsports development driver has short track plans to keep busy this season. He told Speed 51 Radio on Wednesday night's show that he will drive a Port City Racing house car at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on May 29th. He is also considering entering an IMCA Modified in the 27th Annual Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals in September. Concord's PLM Engine Rules to Match Those of ASA SAT

Officials from Concord Speedway (NC) announced today an engine change for its Pro Late Model NASCAR Whelen All American Series division - just four weeks into the season. The track's new engine guidelines will match that of ASA SAT, which allow 9:1 and/or McGunegill or Hamner Spec engines with two-barrel carburetors. The track had previously only allowed crate type engines; either the GM-604 engine or the Ford Blue oval.

PASS North Unity Speedway (ME) winner Johnny Clark, ASA Midwest Iowa Speedway winner Chris Wimmer, last year's NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year Landon Cassill and ASA Late Models President Ron Varney headline the list of guests on a special Wednesday night edition of Speed 51 Radio tonight at 8pm ET. The Speed 51 Mafia will be broadcasting live from Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord, NC, located just off Interstate 85's Exit 54. In addition to the Speed 51 Radio show at 8pm, Buffalo Wild Wings will also be the home of the UARA Soiree show at 6pm and the Legends Nation Radio "Salute to Female Racers" program at 6:30pm.
Several racecars will be on display, including Michael Pope's Buffalo Wild Wings-sponsored Super Late Model, Kyle Plott's BWW Legends Car and cars from the Bruce Silver Racing stable, as well. A racing motion simulator and several drivers signing autographs will also make the entire night at Buffalo Wild Wings a "can't miss."

A Doubleheader Weekend is Planned for Southern Superstars

The Southern Superstars Short Track Series is proud to announce the First Annual Alabama Triple Header that begins this Saturday night, May 23rd at The Sayre Speedway just west of Birmingham, AL. The series moves the next night, Sunday, May 24th, to The Huntsville Speedway in Huntsville AL. The drivers then have less than a week before finishing up the triple header with a stop at The Montgomery Motor Speedway located in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, May 30th. After three races, John Wilkinson holds an 8 point lead over Jeff Letson. Chase Oliver is close behind the duo at only 2 points behind Letson.
Cale Gale Heads North to Canadian Tire Series This Season

Farwell Racing Inc . has announced that Kevin Harvick Inc. development driver Cale Gale will drive the all new No. 13 Rheem Chevrolet Impala for much of the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season. Gale is unable to commit to FRI's entire 2009 schedule and will miss the season opener at Delaware Speedway on June 6 as he is already committed to drive the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet for KHI in the Nationwide Series race the same day in Nashville, Tennessee. Nik Lapcevich will be behind the wheel of the FRI #33 for that race.
