WFO to Race Talk Radio, UARA Soiree Will Have McCall & Crum

Joe Castello, formerly of XM Radio, has now partnered with RaceTalkRadio. His new WFO Radio show will be a weekly feature on RaceTalkRadio.com On Mondays from 6-8pm.

In other Race Talk Radio news, Matt McCall and Jake Crum will be guests on the UARA Soiree show Tuesday at 6pm.  The show will be broadcast live from Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord, North Carolina.

Colt James Changes Course, Will Double Up in ASA SAT

As a follow-up to our earlier entry, it turns out that Colt James will not be racing a Pro Late Model at Concord Speedway this Saturday after all.  James had entered the event, but has since decided to head to Five Flags Speedway (FL) on Friday and Mobile International Speedway on Saturday to take part in the doubleheader weekend of ASA Southeast Apshalt Tour races at those two tracks.

Colt James and Michael Pope Enter First Concord PLM Race

Former ASA South title contender Colt James, from Buda, TX, and former Viper Series PLM champ Michael Pope, of Dublin, GA, are both entered in this week's NASCAR Whelen All American Series Pro Late Model opener at Concord Speedway in NC. James will run his own car while Pope will drive the #51 for BDI Racing. 

Landon Cassill Enters ASA LM South Race at South Georgia

Landon Cassill and High Performance Motorsports have announced that they have teamed up to race the ASA Late Model South “Short Track Nationals Georgia 100” at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP). Cassill will compete in the #61 LS3 powered Chevy Impala SS.

Gresham to Run Full Season of ASA Southeast Tour Events

Max Gresham has announced that he'll run his family's #7-11 entry in the full schedule of ASA RC Cola/Moon Pie Southeast Asphalt Tour events this season. 

Gale Expected For Easter Bunny 150, Looks Ahead to KHI Start

Former Kevin Harick Inc. development driver Cale Gale was expected to race Saturday during NASCAR's Pro Late Model opener at Concord Speedway, but he has opted out of that race for another. Speed51.com has learned that Gale will attempt to compete in the Easter Bunny 150, Pro All Stars Series South race at Hickory Motor Speedway on April 11th.  UPDATE - Actually, there is nothing former about Cale Gale's role with the Kevin Harvick, Inc. team.  He'll be entering the June NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Nashville for the team.

Mod Tour Teams to Test at Bristol Again Tuesday

Speed51.com has learned their will be a second test for Modified Tour teams in preparation for the August debut at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Ronnie Silk and Todd Szegedy will be part of Tuesday's test at Bristol. This session is to determine the Hoosier tire that will be utilized when the teams compete at the Tennesee racetrack.

Salem a Busy Place For ARCA Testing, Schrader Enters Race

Frank Kimmell, Craig Goess, Steve Arpin and Tim George, Jr. and Ron Cox have been testing at Salem Speedway (IN) in recent days to prepare for the April 4th ARCA RE/MAX Series race there. 

In other news, NASCAR Sprint Cup veteran Ken Schrader has filed an entry for the Salem ARCA race.

Bristol Like Salem & Winchester?  Not Even Close Says Stewart

Leading up to today's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Tony Stewart was asked in a press conference how similar Bristol is to the Salem and Winchester short tracks in Indiana.  The tracks might be far removed from the Cup world, but are familiar to CRA and USAC fans in the short track world.

“Not even close," said Stewart. "They really aren’t in all reality. From the standpoint other than the physical shape of it the thing that was so different that makes Winchester and Salem so different from what we do here is you had to be up against the wall there. Here we are on the bottom."

Bristol Mod Tour Race To Be Backed by University of NW Ohio

The University of Northwestern Ohio and its cutting-edge automotive programs will be the title sponsor of the “UNOH Perfect Storm 150,” NASCAR Whelen Modified and Southern Modified Tour combination race at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 19th.  UNOH will also sponsor the #2 Modified of Todd Szegedy in the event.

ACT Rookie of The Year Sweet Turns Attention to Thunder Road

2008 ACT Late Model Rookie of the Year Nick Sweet will not return to that tour on a full-time basis this season.  Instead, the Vermont driver will chase the "King of the Road" track championship at Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT).  Sweet has been successful at Thunder Road before, winning races in both the Street Stock and Flying Tiger Late Model divisions and capturing the 2007 Tiger championship.

Elliott Teammates Plan Full Schedule in GAS

Speed51.com has learned that both Chase Elliott and Casey Roderick will contest the full Georgia Asphalt Series as teammates for the Bill Elliott Driver Development team.  The GAS season starts on April 4th at Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA).

All Racing, No Rain!  Weekend Forecasts Look Great
Short Tracks - 3/20/09
Rain might have been the big story of short track racing last weekend, but don't expect a repeat performance.  Tonight's forecast for Orlando Speedworld (FL), where the Super Late Models will get busy, calls for a 10% or less chance of showers.  Tomorrow's PASS South opener at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) is faced with a forecast made up of highs around 61 and a zero percent chance of rain.  Up the road at Bristol Motor Speedway (TN) and Concord Speedway (NC), where the UARA-Stars and NASCAR Southern Mod Tour will be action respectively, might see temps a degree or two lower, but no chance of rain either.

Greg Haese To Run For ASA Midwest Rookie of the Year Crown

1998 Mid-American Stock Car Series Rookie of the Year Greg Haese will run for the Rookie of the Year award on the ASA Midwest Tour this season.  Haese got his first taste of ASA Midwest action in the Labor Day 100 at Norway Speedway, where he qualified 14th, won a fast qualifier heat, and finished a respectable eighth.

Roush/Yates To Power Benny Gordon's Pro Cup Team

Benny Gordon and his North South Motorsports team have announced that they will switch to Roush/Yates Engines for their 2009 USARacing Pro Cup campaign.

Jason Hogan Commits to Full ASA Southeast Schedule

After capturing three wins in just seven ASA Southeast Asphalt series starts a season ago, Georgia native Jason Hogan will challenge full time for the RC Cola/MoonPie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour championship. Hogan and his Cleveland, Georgia based race team will race in all seventeen series races.

McCall Blisters Bristol With UARA Track Record in Pole Run

Matt McCall set fast time for Saturday evening's UARA-Stars Late Model Stock Car tour season-opener at Bristol Motor Speedway.  McCall's lap of 15.440 was .288-seconds quicker than the previous UARA track qualifying record at Bristol.  Jamey Caudill qualified second-quick, while Paddy Rodenbeck, Jake Crum and Coleman Pressley rounded out the top-five.  The UARA 150-lap event will take the green flag at approximately 7:00pm Saturday night.  click here for full qualifying results

Andy Seuss to Appear on Sirius' "Dialed In" on Thursday Night

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver Andy Seuss will be on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128 Thursday at approximately 9:00pm.  He will appear as a guest on Claire B. Lang's "Dialed In" radio show to talk about the upcoming WSMT season, which starts with Saturday's Capital Bank 150 at Concord Speedway (NC).

Super Late Models Hit Orlando on Friday for Orange Blossom 100

The Super Late Models will make their 2009 Season debut at Orlando Speedworld this Friday night with the running of the Orange Blossom 100.  The event has been previously held at the now-closed West Palm Beach Fairgrounds Speedway and New Smyrna Speedway.  Among the entries expected for Friday's race are David Rogers, Tim Russell, Jeremy Colangelo and Wayne Anderson.

John Stancil is Ready to Make UARA Debut at Bristol

John Stancil is looking to make his UARA-Stars Late Model Stock Car debut this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.  He'll drive the #98 car for owner Chris Carlson with crew chief Chase Pistone in Saturday night's race at the legendary half-mile.

New Smyrna Speedway Undergoes Some Construction Work

New Smryna Speedway (FL) has been in the middle of a construction project this week.  Just two short years after the entire racing surface was repaved, the high-banked half-mile began it's latest project, widening and partially re-surfacing Pit Road.  Crews started work on Sunday morning and expect to have the project finished by the middle of the week, in time for racing to take place on Saturday night.

When complete, Pit Road will be four feet wider extending all the way to the Turn one 'blend-lane', with a new concrete surface that will extend 15ft from the inside Pit Wall making Pit Road a total of 42 feet wide.

Sunoco to Fuel Pro Cup Again This Season

USARacing has announced that Sunoco Race Fuels will return as the Official Fuel for the Pro Cup Series this year.  This will mark the 12th consecutive year of Sunoco's involvement.

Ted Christopher Enters Southern Mod Tour Race at Concord

It was reported on Tuesday night's Speed 51 Radio program that Concord Speedway (NC) has received an entry for this weekend's first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race of the season, the Capital Bank 150, from 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher.

Burt is Out, But Brown is in, For Speed 51 Radio Show

Southern Modified Tour ace, and seven-time Bowman Gray Stadium Mod Champion, "Rocket" Tim Brown will appear on Tuesday night's Speed 51 Radio show.  He will replace fellow Southern Modified compeitor Burt Myers, who was originally scheduled to appear on tonight's show, starting at 7pm ET on RaceTalkRadio.com on live at Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord, North Carolina.

Benny Gordon and Trevor Bayne Enter Bristol Nationwide Race
Nationwide Series - 3/17/09
Benny Gordon, who has won four Pro Cup Northern Division championships and two Pro Cup Champion's Series titles, is looking to make his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.  He will be driving the #72 Ford.

Also entered in the Bristol Nationwide Series race is NASCAR Camping World East Series standout Trevor Bayne, who will drive the #52 entry fielded by Jimmy Means Racing.

#32 Great Deals CRA Team Changes Their Program
CRA - 3/17/09
The #32 CRA Super Series team of Great Deals Racing is cutting back.  Team owner Jim Mougeotte is investing heavily into the Great Deals Magazine and is selling the team's equipment.  Until the equipment is sold,  the #32 is available for lease on a race-to-race basis.  Zach Taylor drove for the team in 2008 and is now headed to the H&S Die Team.
