Buffalo Wild Wings Is the Setting for Tuesday's Speed 51 Radio Show

Hirschman Still Rideless But Testing for Troyer at Bristol

The “Big Bristol” test is this week and Matt Hirschman will be wheeling a Modified during the session.  Hirchman will drive the “Troyer House-Car” for Billy Colton and the boys at Troyer Engineering, yet despite rumors, he does not have a ride for the Tour in ‘09.  Hirschman is one of several drivers that NASCAR has asked to participate in the Tuesday’s test to help prepare for August’s Whelen Modified Tour debut at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Kevin Harvick Planning on Racing at Snowball Derby

Speed51.com has learned that former Daytona 500 winner and this year’s Bud Shootout winner, Kevin Harvick is planning to compete in this year’s Snowball Derby in December at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.  Harvick told Speed51.com on Friday night in Ontario, California that he has just taken delivery of a new Port City straight-rail chassis for the Derby.  “We pick one race a year,” said Harvick.  “Last year we did the Oxford 250 (which he won) and this year we want to do the Snowball Derby.”  Harvick drives Chevrolets for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  More details to follow in coming weeks.  Discuss this and other Snowball Derby news in the Speed51.com Snowball Derby forum. click here

David Gilliland Eyeing A Few Late Model Shows in Carolinas

David Gilliland Eyeing A Few Late Model Shows in Carolinas - In California today, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and Nationwide Series winner David Gilliland told us he has a straight-rail Late Model in his shop in North Carolina. He said he would like to run a couple races this year in that area after realizing how much fun it was to compete in the SLM show at Irwindale Speedway in January. Gilliland is attempting to make the next four Cup shows with TRG Motorsports.

Daytona ARCA Race Draws Record Audience

The ARCA RE/MAX Series opened its 57th year of competition with a record television and website audience as more than one million households tuned into SPEED on Saturday evening, February 7th to watch the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 and an additional 40,000 followed the race on ARCA's websites, arcaracing.com and ARCA Nation.

Foreclosure is Postponed at Waterford Speedbowl

Waterford Speedbowl (CT) management announced Thursday they have successfully petitioned the Superior Court of New London to postpone the possible foreclosure sale of the facility until October 31st of this year.  The Court had previously set March 7 as the sale date.  This new schedule effectively ensures that the 2009 racing season will be completed.

The Milwaukee Mile Sees Its Promoter Agreement Signed

Wisconsin Motorsports, LLC has signed an agreement to retain promoter rights at The Milwaukee Mile motor speedway. The historic venue is located on the Wisconsin State Fair Park grounds in West Allis, Wis. and continues to be the oldest active auto racing facility in the country, dating back to 1903. 

Wisconsin Motorsports is led by President & CEO Claude Napier, who has signed a new license agreement with the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board for an initial term of ten years, with the option of up to 30 years.

Former ARCA Driver A. Arnold Passes Away

Former ARCA RE/MAX Series driver A. Arnold, who finished in the top-10 in series driver points for six consecutive seasons from 1971 through 1976, died February 6 at the age of 69.  Arnold, who drove team cars with fellow Kentuckian Bobby Watson for much of his ARCA career, was the 1971 Series Rookie of the Year and finished championship runnerup to Ron Hutcherson in 1973 and to Dave Dayton in 1976. Arnold won 6 races and 5 pole qualifying awards driving primarily Chevrolet Camaros bearing the #7.

Dustin Delaney to Run Limited ARCA RE/MAX Schedule
ARCA - 2/19/09
NASCAR Camping World East Series driver Dustin Delaney plans to run a schedule of eighth ARCA RE/MAX Series events in 2009.  The ARCA races will be in addition to his CW East effort and will tentatively include races at Pocono, Kentucky, Rockingham, Chicagoland and the dirt track at Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Casola Headed Camping World Eastward With Andy Belmont

21-year-old New Jersey native and former USAR Pro Cup and ARCA RE/MAX Series regular Dominck Casola has teamed up with Andy Belmont Racing for a full season of NASCAR Camping World East Series racing in 2009.

McCann Makes Southern Mod Plans
MODS - 2/17/09
Tom McCann, Jr plans on returning to Modified racing. The former Riverhead Raceway (NY) driver, and son of former Mod driver Tom McCann, has bought a Modified from James "Rupert" Sink. The Troyer car was previously owned by Donny Lia.

McCann recently sold the Super Late Model he had been running in the PASS South Series. Business commitments (McCann owns a restaurant called "McCann's Place" near the Mooresville Dragway in North Carolina) and lack of funding have kept McCann out of the seat for much of the 2008 season. He told Speed51.com that returning to the Mods means he is "going to have some fun again." 

Kittleson to Run Limited Nationwide Schedule for Rick Ware

Super Late Model / ASA / Pro Cup standout Travis Kittleson has signed on to drive for the Rick Ware Racing organization for select events in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Chris Fontaine to Go Truck Series Racing
TRUCKS - 2/17/09
ASA Southeast Asphalt Series driver Chris Fontaine and the CFI team are shifting gears to run the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2009.

The team has purchased three trucks from TRG Motorsports and is in the process of preparing them for the March 28 NCWTS race at Martinsville.

Thunder Raceway is Back in NASCAR WAAS Fold
TRACKS - 2/16/09
Thunder Raceway in Show Low, Ariz., returns to the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series this year.  The .250-mile clay oval is located in the east central Arizona’s Mogollon Rim, known as a forested resort area. The track was forced to leave the series in 2002 due to savage forest fires. One fire of historic proportions burned for weeks and consumed almost 500,000 acres impacting Show Low and the surrounding region.
