Tim Jordan Wins Third Race in Six Starts at Waterford
Saturday Night Victory Leaves 22-Year-Old Batting .500
Racing is a tough sport. While most head-to-head team competitions produce one winner and one loser at the end of the game, in racing there is only one winner and as many as 20, 30 or even 42 losers at one time. The odds of winning are long and a season where a competitor goes even 1 for 20 could be considered successful.
So for Tim Jordan to be “batting” .500 six events into the Late Model season at Waterford Speedbowl (CT) is something more than just impressive. Jordan has only finished outside of the top three once in 2007 and has collected three victories, including a second consecutive win in Saturday night’s race.
“That’s not too bad,” said Jordan of his record.
Jordan’s secret to success is that there is no secret. There are no tricks either. He’s just taken a simple approach to racing and has committed himself to doing the right things as well as possible.
“It’s just a matter of hanging out and avoiding trouble,” said Jordan. “I just race. It’s my job to try and win, so I just try to go out there and put everything else behind me. You have to drive each corner of each lap like you’ll never drive again. You can’t drive all out, but you need to be methodical about it. Even in a short 30 lap race, there are times when you have to settle in and ride. You have to try and put the mentality of a tour race into a shorter race.”
On Saturday night, there was plenty of action packed into Jordan’s 30-lap feature.
“We started eighth and progressively marched through the field. The race went green early on and got into the lead with about 12 laps to go. I was running the outside and using that lane to work people over. When we got to the lead, we settled in before a yellow came out. On the next restart, mayhem ensued behind me. I got a good start, so I didn’t notice what

was going on, but the second row got into each other and caused a big wreck behind that. It was a bad scene and luckily I was in the lead for that and I restarted the race.”
Jordan wasn’t home free at that point though. He had one more dramatic moment that
could have kept him from visiting victory lane.
“I almost blew the mission,” admitted Jordan. “We were under caution for a really long
time, probably close to a half hour, and my tires really cooled down. I spun my tires on
the restart and the guy in second got a little bit ahead of me.
"The caution came out again and I was in second. Luckily, I was able to pass him again
on the outside and get the lead back. I drove away then and won the race.”
Jordan returns to action in the Late Model ranks this Saturday night at the Waterford
Speedbowl.
